AG Thanks Fla. House for Passing HB 1253

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Ashley Moody is praising the Florida House for unanimously passing legislation that will help advance the state’s opioid litigation. The Florida House today passed HB 1253, sponsored by Representative Amber Mariano on a 111-0 vote. The legislation would allow the Attorney General’s Office to access limited information from Florida’s Prescription Drug Monitoring Database.

The limited information would be used, under protective order, in the state’s ongoing litigation against the nation’s largest opioid distributors, manufacturers and pharmacies to help further prove the corporations’ roles in the opioid crisis that is claiming 17 lives a day in Florida.

Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “A vote for this bill is a vote for the Florida families and communities devastated by the opioid crisis. There is not a corner of our state that has not been ravaged by the death and destruction caused by opioid abuse. I know that by working together we will hold responsible the entities that helped fuel the opioid crisis that is killing 17 people a day in our state.”
