This weekend marks the 27th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, and I am urging Floridians to help us fight addiction by disposing of any unused and expired prescription medications. 

Our nation is still in the midst of a deadly opioid crisis—as more than 100,000 people die from drug overdoses every year on average nationwide. 

Addiction doesn’t always start with illicit substances. It can begin with someone misusing prescription drugs from a friend or family member.

Drug Take Back Days are a great opportunity for Floridians to clean out their medicine cabinets and join the fight against opioid abuse. This biannual event can help ensure medications don’t fall into the wrong hands. 

On Saturday, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., law enforcement officers across the state will be at drop-off locations to collect and safely dispose of medications. 

There are more than 200 locations throughout Florida where individuals can safely dispose of their prescription and over-the-counter medications. To find a location near you, visit DEA.gov/TakeBackDay.
